Isosorbide-5 Mononitrate 60 mg Extended-Release (ER) Tablets are an oral vasodilating medication used to prevent chronic stable angina pectoris (chest pain) caused by coronary artery disease. They work by relaxing vascular smooth muscle to increase blood flow to the heart, but are not for acute attacks.

Isosorbide-5-mononitrate (ISMN) 60 mg ER tablets are vasodilators that prevent angina by releasing nitric oxide (NO) in vascular smooth muscle, activating guanylyl cyclase to increase intracellular cGMP. This process induces smooth muscle relaxation, mainly dilating veins to reduce preload, and to a lesser extent, reducing arterial pressure (afterload), decreasing myocardial oxygen demand.
