This medicine effectively treats bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, soft tissues, bones, joints, and urinary tract in children. It is also given to prevent infection in animal and human bite wounds and may also be given before surgical procedures as a preventive therapy.
In Treatment of Bacterial Infections

It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall), which is essential for the survival of the bacteria.
